Provisioning a dedicated line is an involved and time consuming process. It can easily take months to accomplish. Most ISPs will handle the process for you, however, it is best to be aware of all the steps.

Step 1. Determine the required bandwidth or access speed.

Step 2. Select an ISP. Order access.

Step 3. Order line from local Telco or CAP. When ordering the line you must identify the ISP and the demarc at your location.

Note: A demarc is the exact location of where you want the line. For example (4th floor, Conference room 202, South wall, just behind the fake tree, about 18” inches above the floor.)

Step 4. Purchase the necessary hardware. Check with the ISP to make sure the hardware will be compatible with their systems. Hardware must include a CSU/DSU for the appropriate line and a router capable of supporting your LAN.

Step 5. Pay telco Installation charges. These often include the first and last months fees as well.

Step 6. Pay ISP installation and monthly charges. Note: You make two monthly payments one to the Telco or CAP for the line and one to the ISP for Internet access.

Step 7. Receive and set up hardware.

Step 8. Confirm the line is working.

Step 9. Confirm ISP access is working.
