As you spend more time on the Internet, you'll soon find files you'll want to download to your computer. And if you build a web page, you will need to upload files to a server, as well, or FTP.
![]() The transfer of files across the Internet is accomlished using File Transfer Protocol. FTP is a protocol similar to http, but developed specifically for transferring files. FTP also refers to programs which enable users to manage file transfers. There are millions of files stored on the Internet at various sites. Many of these sites are still not all accessible through a Web browser. FTP is required to access them.
